Fancy color diamonds are considered Z+ in color.  Additionally, they are not found on the regular scale of diamond grading for white diamonds.  Fancy color diamonds have their own grading criteria.  Fancy color diamonds are very rare and measure by the hue of color in which they omit.  The most popular colors are yellow and pink but there are other rare colors as well.  These colors are red, purple, blue and green and are becoming increasingly popular.  However, supply for these color diamonds are limited for these expensive items.

White Diamonds Vs Fancy Color Diamonds

Unlike white diamonds, fancy colors usually go by market value and availability. Color diamond prices figure by a few different methods.  An important consideration is the hue.  The more rare the color the more expensive.  The saturation of color, very light, light, intense and vivid all factor into the value.  The brilliance omitted. The Clarity.  As some diamonds can appear cloudy from inclusions.  The overall cut or make of the diamond can play a factor in determining the price.  The total carat weight.  Fancy color diamonds under the 0.80 carat range sell at significantly more discounts than heavy diamonds.  Also, flawless and VVS clarity diamonds sell with a premium in the fancy color diamonds spectrum.  Diamonds with brownish of yellowish tints sell with additional discounts as they are not as desirable.

Clarity in Fancy Color Diamonds

In a white diamond, inclusions are more noticeable than in colored diamond.  This can be the determining factor in which item you buy. With fancy colored diamonds, inclusions are much less noticeable, hence less important. Usually, it is much more difficult to locate inclusions on a colored stone opposed to a white diamond.

Undertones in Color Diamonds

A secondary undertone that enhances the color is great. A secondary color that detracts from the color is undesirable.  For example, a yellow diamond with brown undertone is not a pure color.  Therefore it is less desirable.  However, a  diamond with a purple or pink undertone is more desirable. color diamonds Fancy Diamonds
