The De Beers Diamond Group of Companies published its annual report. The report summarized the mining giant's corporate and social responsibility success in 2012. Including a 3.9 billion economic impact to stakeholders in Africa. Such as governments, suppliers, employees and shareholders, representing 75% of the group's revenue. That figure was down from 4.4 billion in 2011, although the percentage of sales was higher. Almost 21% of their rough diamond sales were made to sight holders in producing countries such as India, China, Vietnam, and Israel. While 375,000 of De Beers Group employees were covered by De Beers Best Practice Principle Assurance Program which requires the company to produce and manufacture in a socially responsible and environmentally friendly manner.
De Beers Diamond Group and the Black Economic Empowerment
Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) a partner of De Beers Diamond Group recently acquired 26% of the Diamond Trading Company South Africa (DTC SA). According to the trade agreement of section 197 of South Africa's Labor Relations, no changes to employee's terms and conditions will occur. Barend Peterson the Chairman of the DBCM said, "we are pleased to align our South African operations to the transformation objectives of the country. The post-recession recovery of De Beers and the increasingly strong performance of DBCM over the past few years have enabled us to now deliver on our determination to empower DTC SA.
